Google Plus Influencing Search

Google+ articles rank higher and are indexed quicker than anything else, and when the rest of the business world realises this, it will attract more people and more advertisers.
Are you in Google+ yet?  Why not ask us to help.

Google+ will be bigger than you think.  If rankings are driven by content, then Google+ has to be the Social Media platform for the future.

After monitoring Google+, I feel it is becoming more interesting for the future than all other Social Media.  My last post on Google+ told you that it didn’t matter that it had less following than Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter, but I am now going to go further.

Influencing Search

Give a thought to these 3 statements:-

  • Already G+ is influencing search results today.
  • G+ content already gets indexed quicker.
  • Social shares leads to links.  It pulls in the picture and a small piece of bio, which in itself is more compelling, and will get more links.

I have said before that SEO is becoming less important.  What I really meant is that if you can get other web pages or blog posts to rank high, and get them to link to your website, you could get the same or better results.

It is the content that you should be concentrating on, not the website.

Google+ articles rank higher and are indexed quicker than anything else, and when the rest of the business world realises this, it will attract more people and more advertisers.

Google+ Following

The fact that Google+ has few users actually means very little.  If you believe the reason Google is creating a social site is to improve accuracy, and to make best search engine, and to sell adverts against it, then it may make more sense.

Google’s reasons for this social network are very different to FB and Twitter, so they don't need a large following.  If they are going to become the best place for search, then they don't need to compete with others on following.  They have the one thing that all people need, so they will get the lion's share of advertisers wanting to be visible.

Authorship

Google wants you to write good content, yourself; not someone else ghost writing it for you.  So they will try to reward you if your content is original and interesting.

The important thing is 'authorship', which is where G+ is aimed.  So…

  • Tell Google that you write for 'that' blog, on G+ pages.
  • Then on the blog pages, link back to your G+ profile.

Any content you write, you should add a link to it from G+, or even write it there.  It will get into the index quicker.

Solution – Google+

  • Links are still an important indicator
  • Social Shares will be very important
  • Author Rank is the new way to rank content

G+ is right in the centre of this.

What can we do?

  • Ignore the people who talk it down.  This is much more important than measuring by the number of followers.
  • Add the buttons. So people can share your content.
  • Implement rel author.  Every piece of content needs to link to the author, and link back.

Do good Social Marketing
All of this above is important, but the most important rule still applies; do good work.  As always, produce good content that people want to share, make sure your website has relevant landing pages for them to link to their objectives.

If you are a good business, with good products and strong values, that communicates well, you are already in a strong place to start.  All you need to do is get visible, so everyone can find those things out easily.

What do you think of Google+ now, and what do you think of its future?
